Why people choose True Colours

The difference is in how we work

We’re a local, family-owned provider with experience across frontline disability work, case management, Residential Youth Support, Child Protection and complex care environments.

We also put real thought into matching participants with staff based on personality, routines, preferences and individual needs. It’s a more considered approach, built around the person rather than simply filling a roster.

FAQS

Answers to your questions

Choosing the right provider can bring up questions that aren’t always answered in a service list. These FAQs cover some of the practical things people often want to know before getting started with True Colours.

How do you decide which Support Worker is the right match for me?

We take the time to look at more than your practical needs. Your personality, routines, preferences, communication style and goals all help us understand the type of person you may work well with.

True Colours places a strong emphasis on matching dedicated Support Workers with each Participant because the relationship itself can have a big impact on your experience. We want the person working alongside you to understand how you like things done and what matters to you.

Where possible, we use what we learn during the initial conversations to guide that match rather than simply allocating someone based on availability.

Tell us. Feeling comfortable with the people working alongside you matters, and we would much rather know when something does not feel right.

Sometimes it may be a communication issue that can be resolved with a conversation. Other times, two people simply may not be the right fit. We will listen to what is not working for you and look at what needs to change.

The matching process is designed around your personality, preferences, routines and individual needs, so your feedback is an important part of getting that right.

You should also feel comfortable speaking up about what you need from the relationship. If you would like to discuss a current match, contact True Colours and talk it through with our team.

Our approach is informed by experience across Disability Support Services, Residential Youth Support, Child Protection, case management and frontline practice.

That background has involved working with complex needs, behavioural challenges, risk and situations where remaining calm and making considered decisions is particularly important.

Our professional development also includes areas such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Psychological First Aid, incident management, restrictive practice training, the Sanctuary Model and the Hope and Healing framework.

Every situation and every person is different, so we do not apply a single response to every circumstance. We consider the individual, the situation, any relevant plans or requirements and the people involved before determining the appropriate way forward.

If you have complex needs or specific requirements, it is helpful to discuss them with us before services begin so we can properly understand what is involved.

The experience behind True Colours includes both frontline Support Worker practice and Case Manager-level responsibilities, with a strong understanding of behavioural needs, risk management and person-centred engagement.

This is supported by professional development in areas including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, restrictive practices, incident management, Psychological First Aid, the Sanctuary Model and other therapeutic frameworks.

That combination of practical and professional experience helps us look at behaviour within the broader context of the person, their circumstances, communication, environment and individual needs.

If you have a Behaviour Support Plan or particular behavioural requirements, let us know when you enquire. This gives us an opportunity to understand your situation properly and discuss whether True Colours has the right staff and experience for what you need.

The response will depend on what has happened, the people involved and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

True Colours has experience and professional development in NDIS incident management, risk management and restrictive practice requirements. Our team understands the importance of responding calmly and appropriately when something unexpected occurs.

Any relevant plans, procedures and reporting requirements would also need to be considered depending on the nature of the incident.

Because incident responses can vary significantly, we do not want to give you a generic answer that may not apply to your situation. If you have questions about how a particular risk or scenario would be managed, contact True Colours before services begin and we can discuss your circumstances in more detail.

The first step is simply getting in touch with us.

We can learn more about the services you currently receive, what you would like to change and what you are looking for from your next provider. It is also a good opportunity to talk about your routines, preferences, goals and the type of Support Worker you feel you work best with.

Before ending services with your existing provider, you should check your current service agreement for any notice requirements or other conditions that apply.

Once we understand what you need, we can discuss whether True Colours is a suitable fit and what would need to happen before services could begin.

There is no need to make a decision before speaking with us. You are welcome to have an initial conversation first and ask any questions you have about making the change.

There is no single notice period that applies to every participant.

Your notice requirements may be set out in the service agreement you have with your current provider, so the best place to start is by checking that agreement carefully.

Look for sections covering cancellation, termination of services or ending the agreement. If you are unsure what applies, you can ask your current provider to explain the relevant terms to you.

You can still speak with True Colours while you are working through this process. That can give us time to understand what you are looking for and discuss potential arrangements before your existing services finish.

We understand that the relationship you build with your Support Worker matters, which is why True Colours places such a strong emphasis on thoughtful matching in the first place.

There may occasionally be circumstances where a regular staff member is unavailable. What happens next will depend on your needs, the arrangements in place and the availability of another suitable person.

Because preferences can differ, it is worth talking with us about what you would be comfortable with if this situation occurs. Some people may prefer another appropriate team member, while others may have different preferences depending on the service or activity involved.

If continuity is particularly important to you, mention this when you contact True Colours so it can be considered when your arrangements are being discussed.

We want people to feel able to raise concerns when something is not working.

If you have a complaint, concern or feedback about your experience with True Colours, we encourage you to tell us what has happened and what you would like us to understand. We will take the information seriously and consider the circumstances involved.

Concerns can sometimes relate to communication, a staff match, the way something has been handled or another aspect of the services you receive. Whatever the issue, giving us the opportunity to understand it is an important part of working towards an appropriate resolution.

If you are raising a complaint on behalf of someone else, let us know your relationship to the participant and any relevant information that will help us understand the situation.
